A poem inspired by The Birthday Walk

Image

When you turn
Your head backwards
Alongside your body
And silhouette
Your long ears upwards
Against the sky
To look at me
With wide-eyed innocence
And grace,
Your classic stance,
I can but implore you
Not to panic
Not to flee
But to stay there, still
A moment longer,
Watching me.
